The Bentley Mulsanne awarded Best Limo 2

Posted on March 16, 2011 by Automotive News

In 2010 Bentley unveiled the successor to the Arnage, the Mulsanne. Bentley has been producing high end luxury cars since 1919 and is the Queen’s limousine of choice.
On its release the new Bentley Mulsanne has won the ‘Best Limousine for the Red Carpet’ award at the glittering Gulf Connoisseur Awards ceremony, which was held at the Armani Hotel in Dubai. The Mulsanne is Bentley’s new flag ship model so the fact that it was chosen over the likes of the Maybach and Phantom have bolstered Bentley’s image.

The Gulf Connoisseur Awards are decided by a panel of six judges, who set out to recognise the very best in outstanding ultra luxury products. The panel chooses from a small group of nominations in each of the various categories, which range from jewellery and fashion to private jets and exotic destinations.

Chris Buxton, Bentley Director for Middle East, Africa and India said, “Bentley is really happy to receive this award from Gulf Connoisseur, the car has been incredibly well received since its launch earlier this year and this is further confirmation of our efforts in producing the very best in luxury motoring.”

Bentley has reported that it has already received a large amount of orders for the Mulsanne from the UAE. The car is designed and built in the UK, at Bentley’s Crewe plant, where the car is put together from ground up. The Mulsanne is a testament to Bentley’s intent to create a new flagship Bentley with refined performance, unparalleled levels of interior luxury and coach building skills to the fore.

Question by ✰Z✰: Would you read this small peice of dialogue PLEASE AND THANK YOU?
I had a lot of trouble because I am not a parent so i was not sure what to write…tell me if this is some what realistic:

“Parker Lynn Morris.” My fathers disappointed voice was adding insult to injury.
“Crap” I whispered. My mother looked like she was going to throw me out of my window.
“What gives you the right to disrespect a teacher?” Mother questioned.
“I just…” I began in a quiet voice before I was cut off.
“Not only did you hurt that poor woman’s feelings,” I knew what she was going to say… “but you embarrassed your father and I.” My dad put his face in his hands.
“Penny, you know this has nothing to do with us.” My dad said. Why were they talking like this? I thought.
“Well how do you think it makes me feel when my daughter has a psychotic break down–” My mother started, my anger level peaked at this moment.
“You want psychotic? I will give you freakin’ psychotic!” I yelled. I grabbed the lamp next to the couch and launched it. The crash from it breaking made my parents jump to there feet.
“PARKER!” My mother shouted.
“This is not about you mother! I don’t give a damn if your embarrassed by my ‘break down’! I was just tired of Ms. Bentley’s crap!” I began shaking with anger and fear. What if I was going crazy? What if that thing in the mirror was some hallucination brought on by insanity.
“Listen Parks, were worried about you.” My father expressed real concern.
“Yes, Mother seems deeply perplexed.” I wanted to run, to move or something. This weird achy feeling caused my to twitch my hands.
“You know I care–” Mother reached towards me.
“Like hell you do.” I moved from her grasps.
“Honey I need to get to work.” My dad whispered in Mother’s ears.
“Of course you do!” I turned around.
“Go to your room Parker! I’m tired of your disrespect!” Mother yelled.
“We will talk about this when I get home Parker.” Dad hugged me and whispered “I would have said the same thing to Ms. Bentley.” My happiness of his understanding was intercepted by every other negative emotion.
“Talk about what?” I asked.
“About what the real problem is.” Mother said.
“There is NO other problem! I just had enough, ok?” I said but mother shook her head.
“Alright, Bye dad.” I ran to my room and slammed the door.

I feel compelled to tell you that there are numerous grammatical, spelling, and formatting errors in your dialogue, but that isn’t your question, is it? The dialogue itself is confusing, I think, but that may be because it is isolated from the context of your story. As a writer of fiction, you can create Parker’s parents however you wish them to be or to behave. Every parent is an individual, unique. Your character’s parents seem normal enough, although Parker is certainly a problem child, to say the least! My advice: Just write your story as you are imagining it; as the author, you are entitled to produce characters of your own desires. The original version of your story is only a rough draft; you must edit, alter, and correct your manuscript if you aspire write for publication. You may need to hire someone to make corrections in grammar and spelling before you attempt to sell your finished manuscript which must be professional in its format. Good luck!

Bentleys Curve Ball 17

Posted on February 27, 2011 by Automotive News

It was as if a light had suddenly pinged on in the Bentley product design department. \”Get stylist Dirk van Braekel on the phone. Tell him that Bentleys don’t have to be square.\” The Continental GT coupe was a very bold move, marking the first Bentley to be delivered under the stewardship of the Volkswagen Group. Of course, the simple and safe thing for the company to have done would have been to ape the styling of previous Bentleys in a pastiche of Britishness as they eased their Rohans under the table. Fortunately it didn’t work out like that and instead, we were treated to one of the most technologically advanced cars ever seen. Here’s how to track down a decent used example.

HISTORY

This bold take on what a modern Bentley coupe should represent was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September 2002. Drawing almost universal acclaim, few were prepared for quite what a technological tour-de-force this model represented. Advance orders poured in and when the cars first appeared in dealerships in March 2003 business was, to say the least, brisk. Beloved by Premiership footballers and raffish city boys alike, the Conti GT spawned a special edition ‘Diamond Series’ and, in summer 2006, a convertible GTC model.

The 600bhp Speed model arrived in mid 2007 billed as the first 200mph Bentley. At the same time the standard GT models received a number of revisions many lifted from the Speed model itself. Weight saving measures knocked 35kg from the car’s kerb weight while low friction dampers boosted ride comfort and the steering was tweaked to give greater feel. A new exhaust system helped deliver a 3.5% reduction in emissions and economy.

WHAT YOU GET

Here is a Bentley that weighs in at Porsche money, that stakes a claim as the most technologically advanced car on sale, and which at the time of launch, was billed as the world’s fastest four-door coupe. Powered by a 6.0-litre twin turbocharged W12 engine good for 555bhp, with four wheel drive and a paddle operated gearbox, the Continental GT was born in a virtual world. Every nut, bolt and washer was designed in concert with the Data Control Model – the computer simulation that would then design the tooling to physically build the car.

Certain Bentley trademarks endure – the bullseye chromed ventilation outlets and the organ stop controls, but don’t get the impression that this interior is a quaint retro pastiche. A touch screen LCD display on the centre console controls the air conditioning, satellite navigation, computer information and entertainment systems, whilst many of the minor controls can be operated without removing hands from the steering wheel. It’s this blend of old and new that’s particularly fascinating. Craftsmanship techniques have been similarly updated. For instance, wood paneling can be dramatically curved in a way that was once impossible. By the same token, while the leather is still applied to the car with the same hand crafted care, it‘s cut from hides using a digitized process that reduces waste and optimizes efficiency.

400 Continental GT Diamond Series cars were produced featuring exclusive 20\” 12-spoke forged alloy wheels. The Continental GT was already fitted with the largest brakes on any production car but the ones on the Diamond Series are bigger. The black 8-piston callipers that peep purposefully from between the wheel spokes clamp down on 420mm carbon-silicon carbide cross-drilled discs at the front and 356mm versions of the same at the rear. Inside, the Continental GT Diamond Series is based on the Mulliner Driving Specification package that was developed by Bentley’s bespoke coachbuilding division to give an added sporting dimension to the standard car. Quilted leather seats and door casings feature along with drilled alloy pedals and a sports gear lever in chrome and leather. The ubiquitous Bentley wood finishes are either dark stained walnut or piano black wood for a more contemporary feel.

WHAT YOU PAY

After the initial feeding frenzy when used GTs were changing hands at huge premiums over the £110,000 list price, values settled and, more recently, have dipped rather sharply as newer attractions from Aston Martin, Ferrari and Porsche have become hotter tickets. These days, you’ll need a mere £78,000 to land an 03 plated Continental GT. New prices nudged up first to £112,750 in early 2005 and then to £115,000. Insurance for all models is Group 20.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

The Continental GT is an extremely reliable car. Many of the oily bits have racked up millions of miles underneath the skin of Volkswagen’s Phaeton with very little complaint and the additional tender loving care that Bentley owners lavish on their cars means that the Continental GT is a solid used buy. Strangely, one of the few ‘faults’ that has been mentioned is the fact that darker coloured paint finishes can go rather ‘swirly’ through overpolishing!

REPLACEMENT PARTS

(approx based on a 2005 Continental GT excluding VAT) Parts for the Continental GT vary in price wildly. Those which are common to Volkswagen group products like the Phaeton aren’t horrifically expensive with a starter motor retailing at £159. The Bentley specific bits are eye wateringly dear though. A replacement windscreen with rain sensor is £1,285 while a headlamp unit is £925.

ON THE ROAD

Power is transmitted to the road via a rear-biased four-wheel drive set up which gives the Continental GT a handy advantage when the going gets slippery. The link between the driven wheels and the engine comes courtesy of a six-speed automatic transmission built for Bentley by ZF. This can be marshalled via paddles behind the steering wheel should you wish, or else it can be driven like a conventional automatic. This was a surprisingly controversial feature, with some engineers arguing that a car with this much torque didn’t need a six-speed gearbox. Yes, you could lock the Continental GT into third gear and surf languidly along for much of the time, but the enthusiast owner profile eventually dictated the six ratios.

Another first for Bentley was the attention to aerodynamics. A car that can accelerate to 60mph in less than five seconds and on to the far side of 190mph requires sufficient aerodynamics that its owner can be assured of it remaining dirty side down. The Continental GT benefits from the expertise of the best aerodynamicists the Volkswagen Group had. The venturi tunnel under the rear of the car and the cooling ducts in the engine bay all attest to their labours.

OVERALL

Although some have criticised the Continental GT for lacking the unbridled sense of occasion possessed by Bentleys of yore, it’s tough to quibble with the product itself. Awesomely powerful, beautifully screwed together and dynamically excellent, the continental GT will be remembered as a landmark car. Now could well be a good time to buy used as early cars that are still feeling fresh are priced attractively low.

I produced this video to help Bentley and Motor Trend launch the Continental GT. It was a fun project as there were only two GT’s in North America at the time, and I got one to play with while taping. The video was shot in San Francisco, Detroit and around England. Edited the project in Final Cut Pro in the basement of my Los Altos home. The voice over talent is David Menesh.

Question by Brother Chris: Sen. Chuck Grassley has launched an investigation into the $ of many TV evangelicals, what do you think?
The leading Republican member of the Senate Finance Committee is launching an investigation into the finances of TV preachers such as Bishop Eddie Long, Paula White, Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Myer, etc. What are your thoughts on this? Here are mine: every dollar taken into ANY Christian ministry should be used for the glory and honor of God…feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, buying medicine for the elderly, etc. It should not be used for jets, limos, expensive suits, etc. However, many of these people have made their money on book deals and CD/ DVD sales. Should the government be getting involved in this matter, AS LONG AS THEY ARE PAYING THE PROPER TAXES? I am sort of taken aback by this action, though I can see where it is coming from…little old ladies making $ 400.00 a month on SSI, barely eating, should not be sending $ $ to TV preachers, who drive Bentley’s, own jets, etc. What do you think?

Bentley Continental GT and GTC 28

Posted on January 22, 2011 by Automotive News

The Bentley Continental GT is one of the most dependable supercars. It has huge performance from the W12 engine, yet superb components and build means it easily absorbs the high miles owners put on it. Seeing cars that have covered many miles is not uncommon, and reflects its easy drivability and dependability. They are rock-solid.

2005 Continental GT coupes are now down to £55k – this is bang on the money and, coincidentally, level pegging with the Aston Martin DB9. This trend continues through the years, too, which is entirely in line with what this car is. It’s Bentley’s alternative to the DB9, and buyers of one often consider the other, too. Lower mileage Continental GTs does tend to hold their values much better. In fact, these have hardened up over the past few months, as many buyers have switched from buying new to used. The stock of available new cars has reduced considerably as heavy discounting has launched most into the market. The company realizes that a short term sales benefit could have longer term implications in erosion of values and consumer appetite to order new ones.

The popular drop-top Bentley Continental GTC is a very creditable alternative to the Coupe GT version – and is, surprisingly, more practical than the Coupe. When people tell me they’ll want to carry a third or fourth person regularly, I advise them to go for the GTC. That’s because the hardtop has the centre console extended between the rear seats. The GTC doesn’t have this, so gives people more space to spread out.

Bentley also has a very well developed personalisation service. This is particularly relevant for open top cars, where owners may be more tempted to indulge and show off. More people buy GTCs as weekend cars, so the mileages tend to be that bit lower than for the GTs. The market factors this into valuations. I certainly have with the cars I’ve looked at here. But I still would have nothing to fear from a higher-mileage GTC, such is the integrity of the car. So long as it was reflected in the price. Currently, the price decreases by about £10,000 for 10,000 miles more on the clock.

The standard Bentley colour palette is very good. You’re safe with most blues, blacks, silvers and greys – so long as you have the right interior. Certain external greens and internal reds need to be approached with care. As a rule, a dark exterior works well with light interior, and vice-versa. A popular colour that really sells well on GTCs is Silver Lake. This is the ‘brochure’ colour, seen in all the original release material, and works superbly on the GTC. The interior is offered with a choice of colour for both the main and secondary hides (secondary means the top stripes of the door panels, the rear shelf, centre console and the dash top). This defaults to a colour that tones with the exterior. Some people have chosen the same colour for both, and this can be overpowering. Also beware of cars with light coloured dash tops. This can reflect into the windscreen on sunny days…

Bentley also offers a wide selection of interior wood veneer finishes. Safe traditional dark walnut and burr finishes provide the traditional feeling of opulence. A modern meaner look is offered with the piano black lacquer and aluminium dash options, but these only work well with contemporary Teutonic colours. There are also some ‘off the wall’ veneer options, such as elm burr and even mahogany, which look yellow and red… and are not popular.

On the GTC, brighter (but still subtle) metallic’s tend to be seen more frequently, again a reflection of the car’s more lifestyle-orientated approach. Also, the choice of hood allows for colours to match the exterior, such as green, blue and red. The brave out there will go for white; with a good set of wheels, this is a reasonably safe choice in the current market – but buyers should remember that tastes and fashion can change…

The Speed version, which arrived in 2007, is a very worthwhile addition to the range, particularly with the GTC. The standard car is hardly slow – it’s still a 6.0-litre W12 model, after all – but the speed gives just that little bit extra, both visually and on the road, with steering and handling tweaks, without costing a fortune to buy. Speed models provide an opportunity for existing drivers to trade up, and also mean Bentley can take on the Ferrari California. This model has set a new benchmark in the sector – and its natural competitors are the Aston Martin DBS Volante and the GTC.

A more recent addition is the Bentley Continental Supersport. This is the new ‘green’ Bentley: in a few years, all models will be E85 Bioethanol compliant – and this is the first one to use the eco fuel. It can, of course, run on regular unleaded too. Producing a full 621bhp, it was launched in two seat coupe guise, as an extreme performance supercar. It is even faster than the standard Speed, with Ferrari-challenging pace. This year, the open-top convertible has been added too, with similar performance and, this time, four seats.

Bentley has benefited from the VW / Audi DNA. While some people criticize the instruments for looking VW Group, it hasn’t proven detrimental to the car in service. They’re solid, reliable, well made parts, and give the car a Teutonic feel that Aston Martin lacks. They’re also extremely reliable. Just make sure it has an official service history. High-mileage and out-of-warranty Bentley Continental GTs are something you really shouldn’t fear. We at Clive Sutton offer a wide range of new and used Bentley cars for sale. We deal across the UK and can look after your Bentley car buying or selling requirements wherever you are located.

Question by Ben B: Should I get into hard core acting?
I am a 14 year old Vermonter and have been in many acting gigs such as captain vonn trapp in the sound of music, Bentley in clowns, Long john silver in treasure island, and Tony in the westside story. I also have won a few awards for singing. I have gotten money for stand up comedy but the only major acting gigs movies/broadway are in colleges which will only take me for very small rolls. I could go to a large city during the summer and stay with my aunt she has asked me to. My aunt thinks I could make money acting during the summer but my aunt is always gone and i don’t feel comfortable staying alone all day in the rich community of million dollar condos my aunt lives in. But the possibility of landing a movie or commercial gig and making cash even in a small roll and possibly launching my acting to a carreer. I already spend all my time out of school either with friends or acting. My aunt has also gotten me accepted to 2 charity concerts should i pursue acting
